Dismaland

Warning: TONS of pictures

So after I found out about Dismaland, I looked it up and discovered that
a) it was only open for 5 weeks,

b) it was a 2 hour train ride away, and
c) I only have a week left in Europe.
So I decided to take a day trip and explore all by myself. Yes,  I did this on my lonesome. My brother, Alan, and my sister-in-law, Erin, did not want to go. They do have a baby and Alan has work and it's not really their thing.. excuses!

So I woke up at 5, made the 6:30 train, arrived in Weston-super-Mare by 9:30 when they open at 11. But thank goodness I did because even though it was an hour and a half before opening, the line was long.

Something super cool happened on my way there though. I was walking from the train station to the park, about a 10 minute walk. I'm about 1/4 mile away when I notice some art on the side of the building I'm walking by:

Seriously? Those last two!? I got so excited after seeing them. So dope! Anyways..

Quick words of advice: when going somewhere new, check the weather. I'm sure some of you are like, "Duh, Rachel." But someone forgot to remind me of that before I left. So I wore flats and a light jacket that would only keep someone from AZ warm (aka it was thin like my Arizona skin)

So yes, I am not dressed appropriately for the weather. It is 57 degrees and then it starts raining. Then wind kicks in. Thank goodness I purchased an umbrella a half hour before (because I obviously think ahead). Do you guys get the visual? I could not feel my toes. But it DEFINITELY added to the dismal vibe. It had a Series of Unfortunate Events thing going. I loved every second.

The staff live up to their expectation. They do not smile, they told me to stop smiling. When I was buying my ticket, the worker said to me, "Are you sure you're at the right place? Why would you want to come here?"

(If I'm going to "the most disappointing theme park" I'm wearing black lipstick)

So you walk in and there's these cardboard "metal detectors" and cardboard "cameras".
This was my best picture because the worker kept telling me I was in his way.
Right after I walked through the "metal detector",
I had this interaction with an employee:

Employee: Are you here alone?
Me: Yes.
Employee: I figured.
The rest is more art stuff for you to look at, so I won't bore you with more writing. These are in order as if you walked around the theme park yourself. I'll write little captions but feel free to look and gush like I did. By the way, sorry the pictures aren't better. I'll be the first to admit I suck at photography. Oh! I sprinkled a couple videos in, too.

I really liked this (except the awful lighting) but if you look close, this artist took the tops of microwavable meals, cut a bit out shaped like a leaf, and folded it up in the pot.

This is a Banksy

So their website says Disneyland representatives aren't allowed.. :

There's a rope ladder on the left

Tatted porcelain dolls !!! I want one bad.

I know this one is a Banksy

!!!!

:)

You could actually golf here hahaha

The Cinderella exhibit reminds me of Princess Diana. I don't know if that's what Banksy intended, but princess, "car" accident, paparazzi,.. idk.

I wasn't being creepy; this is how he posed.

That's it! I thought it was worth the two hour train ride. Have a good week everyone!
